The Spartanburg County Parks Department carefully selects and screens ACE and Summer Camp staff members prior to hiring.
Each candidate must undergo a background check, Sex Offenders Registry check, drug screening, and an interview process that requires each candidate to provide personal references, and school and work history information.
Recruitment & Training
The Parks Department recruits heavily from local colleges and universities in order to hire the most educated and competent staff. Once an individual has been hired they undergo a training period where they shadow lead counselors and are trained under direct supervision.
Each staff member must also complete Safe Schools online training and American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification. Throughout the year the Parks Department provides mandatory staff training sessions that include safety, behavior modification, program development, and fun ideas for new games and crafts.
