General Information

Lake Cooley Park is managed by the Spartanburg County Parks Department.

The Lake Cooley Outdoor Education Center was recently constructed as a partnership between the Spartanburg County Parks Department and the Startex-Jackson-Wellford-Duncan Water District. The center will be a hub for outdoor recreation and serve as an environmental education facility that hosts educational programs aimed at the following:

  • Awareness and sensitivity to the environment and environmental challenges
  • Knowledge and understanding of the environment and environmental challenges
  • Attitudes of concern for the environment and motivation to improve or maintain environmental quality
  • Skills to identify and help resolve environmental challenges and skills aimed at increasing abilities in outdoor recreation activities
  • Participation in activities that lead to increasing a knowledge base regarding the environment and the ability to safely enjoy outdoor recreational pursuits

Permits are required for boat use and fishing on Lake Cooley. For permits, contact the Startex-Jackson-Wellford-Duncan Water District at 864-439-4423.


Yaks & Snacks Information

Starting Friday, May 3, 2019, the Lake Cooley Outdoor Education Center will open “Yaks and Snacks” for the 2019 Spring/Summer season. Yaks and Snacks will sell light refreshments and operate a kayak and stand-up paddle board rental fleet that will be open 

Thursday 1pm-7pm

Friday 1pm-7pm

Saturday 8am-5pm

Sunday 1pm-5pm

Outdoor Recreation Programs

Adventure Camp

Lake Cooley Outdoor Education Center offers an amazing opportunity for children ages 10-15 to experience the wonderful outdoors. Summer Adventure Camp 2019 is offered in six different one week sessions! Find out more about Adventure Camp here and get registered today!


Facility and Picnic Shelter Rental Information

There are three beautiful picnic shelters as well as one large picnic pavilion that overlooks the 330 acre lake at Lake Cooley Park.

** Reserve a shelter by visiting the link. Under "Facility Reservations" look for "Lake Cooley Park" and choose the picnic shelter you would like to reserve.

The Lake Cooley Outdoor Education Center also offers meeting space for business or corporate events on Monday - Friday from 8am-5pm (maximum capacity of 40 people).
